Australian University Games 2007 Include Tae Kwon Do

By Tim Wigg-AUS  The 2007 Australian University Games will be held from 23 – 28 of September, 2007 on the Gold Coast and is managed by Australian University Sport (AUS). The tae kwon do competition for men and women will take place on September 26.
The Games are renowned for providing a friendly but competitive environment for Australia’s university sporting elite and with the host city being the Gold Coast, the predicted 6,500 competitors can’t wait to get here.
The official opening of registrations and the Australian University Games Media Launch are two major milestones in the lead up to the annual event. Dignitaries including Chris Bombolas MP, Cr Ron Clarke, Ian O’Connor (VC of Griffith University) and Jeff Fitzgerald (AUS President) joined the media for a dazzling media launch.
“The pinnacle period of Australian University Sport’s calendar is now here,” expressed Jeff Fitzgerald, AUS President.
“With only 60 days to go until the start of the Games and with representatives from every university throughout Australia attending the Media Launch, it is set to be a great start to the event.”
The state of the art facilities provided by Circle on Cavil will be used to demonstrate the spirit and sensation of the Games throughout the Media Launch function.
Recognized as the perfect opportunity for athletes to compete in a national multi-sport event against world class competitors, including many of Olympic standards, the Games has built up a reputation as an event not be missed.
Since its inception in 1993, the Australian University Games (AUG) has grown to be Australia’s largest annual multi-sport event.
The Gold Coast can expect the 6,500 university student athletes to make great use of the many sporting facilities found throughout the coast. Held annually in a different location each year Economic impact of over $10.5 million for host city.
The Games produce an overall sporting champion as well as awarding The Doug Ellis Trophy to the per capita champion, which is based on results adjusted to the university’s population. Melbourne University took out this prestigious trophy last year when Adelaide hosted the 2006 Australian University Games and they will be back in 2007 to defend it. For more information contact
